Born and bred in Istanbul, Dr Sukru Nural majored in English Language and Literature in the University of Istanbul and obtained his English Language Teaching certificate from the same university in 2005. He  earned his MA TESOL Studies and PhD in Applied Linguistics and TESOL from the University of Leeds and the University of Leicester, respectively. His doctoral thesis (“English as Academic Purposes teachers’ cognitions about lexis/vocabulary teaching”) was published by Lambert Publishing in 2014. Dr Nural has been a visiting post-doc researcher under the supervision of Professor Ernesto Macaro, the director of the Department of Education, the University of Oxford. He regards Simon Borg and Gokmen Gezer as the most influential and inspirational applied linguists on his professional development. He has been working as a full-time assistant professor (lecturer) in Murat Hudavendigar University since March 2015.

To date, Dr Nural has served as an academic in various educational institutions: Güvender Publishing, Marmara University Nihat Sayar Education Foundation, English Point, Leeds Language Academy, Dialogue Language Schools, Kocaeli University, Sabanci University, De Montfort University, Istanbul Medipol University and Galatarasay University.
Dr Nural’s areas of research interest are as follows:

– language teacher cognition and language learner cognition
– pyscholinguistic dimensions of language teaching
– vocabulary learning/teaching; academic lexis
– classroom discourse/interaction
– words and dictionaries
